Enabling and Disabling Alarm Suppression

When alarm suppression is enabled for an object or subtree, depending on the alarm class you want to suppress, any events coming from those objects are suppressed.
This means that any events relating to those objects do not display in the Summary bar and Event List of your Flex Client application, while all consequences of such events are not activated.
However, value and status changes of the affected objects are still updated and logged in the history.

You can check whether the alarm suppression is Enabled or Disabled for an object from the Properties section in the right panel.
You can also enable or disable alarm suppression, and filter System Browser to display those system objects:

Prerequisites

info

You can enable or disable alarm suppression using the Properties section in the right panel, either from the System workspace or the Events workspace.

The following procedures describe how to carry out those tasks from Event List.

Block Alarm Transmission to Fire Department

The alarm suppression feature disables the display of events concerning the affected object or subtree. The alarm functionality (for example, the fire detection system) is not affected.
Consequently, any incoming alarms are still transmitted to the fire department.

To block the alarm transmission to the fire department, you must exclude the fire detection by disabling the area, zone, or fire detector on the panel as follows:

  1. In Event List, select the event for the fire object to be changed.
  2. If the right panel is collapsed, select to expand it.
  3. The Properties section displays here and shows the object properties.
  4. If necessary, switch Basic to Advanced.
  5. Next to the Mode property, select and then Disable.
  6. Select .

Enable Alarm Suppression for a Single Object

  1. In Event List, select the event for the object to be changed.
  2. If the right panel is collapsed, select to expand it.
  3. The Properties section displays here and shows the object properties.
  4. If necessary, switch Basic to Advanced.
  5. The Alarm Suppression property indicates whether the alarm suppression is Enabled or Disabled for the selected object.
  6. Next to the Alarm Suppression property, select and then Enable.
  7. The Enable dialog box displays.

    • Select All Classes to suppress all the events on the management station.
    • Select a specific alarm class whose events you want to suppress on the management station.
  9. Alarm suppression is enabled for the selected single object.
By default, if the selected single object is in alarm when you enable alarm suppression its events remain visible in the Summary bar and Event List.
Alarm suppression will activate on the next events that occur.
NOTE: The following error message displays if the alarm suppression feature is not available for your configuration: Enable failed.
  10. Select .
  1. The alarm suppression updates accordingly for the relevant single object.
NOTE: The following error message displays if the alarm suppression feature is not available for your configuration: Alarm Suppression command execution failed!

Enable Alarm Suppression for an Entire Subtree

  1. In Event List, select the event for subtree to be changed.
  2. If the right panel is collapsed, select to expand it.
  3. The Properties section displays here and shows the object properties.
In particular, the Alarm Suppression property indicates whether the alarm suppression is Enabled or Disabled for an entire subtree (that is, for the selected object and all objects below the selected object in the tree).
  4. Next to the Alarm Suppression property, select and then Enable All.
  5. The Enable All dialog box displays.
  6. To suppress alarm classes, from the Enable for drop-down list select one of the following:
    • Select All Classes to suppress all the events on the management station.
    • Select a specific alarm class whose events you want to suppress on the management station.
  1. Select .

Alarm suppression will activate on the next events that occur.
NOTE 1: The following error message displays if the alarm suppression feature is not available for your configuration: Enable failed.
NOTE 2: The Enable All command fails for All Classes in case descendants in the tree have validation configured, but the data point at top where the command is executed is not configured for validation.
  3. The alarm suppression updates accordingly for the relevant object and all objects below the selected object in the tree.
NOTE: The following error message displays if the alarm suppression feature is not available for your configuration: Alarm Suppression command execution failed!
