Setting SNMPv1 or SNMPv2 Protocol

The SNMPv1 and SNMPv2 messaging protocols allow for sending messages that are authenticated through a plain text community string.

  1. System Manager is in Engineering mode.
  2. System Browser is in Management View.
  3. The SNMP network is selected under Project > Field Networks.
  4. In the System Management tab, the General Settings expander is open.
  1. In Common settings, next to Protocol version, select one of the following:
    • v2 (default)
    • v1
  2. The SNMP v1/v2 Settings area presents you the following default values:
    - Read community = public (read-only access to data transmitted between an SNMP agent and an SNMP manager.)
    - Write community = private (read/write access to data transmitted between an SNMP agent and an SNMP manager.)
    • To authenticate messages, change the default community strings with custom unencrypted community strings.
  3. Click Save .
